1-2 mild swears and 1 stronger swear word. I liked the way this story provides more background and motivation for some of the actions of the Disney characters. It also raises some intriguing questions: Was the enchantress justified in cursing the young prince? How did the servants feel about being transformed along with their master? Can provincial peasants find a place for magic in their lives? I’m a huge fan of well-written “fractured fairy tales,” and this book’s rich language and lively descriptions kept me turning the pages from beginning to the end! Encouraged by selfish and close-minded rulers, the non-magic townsfolk start persecuting those who are in any way “enchanted.” The enchantress must leave to protect herself and her family, but she wants to find out if the young prince is different from his cold-hearted parents. But the tiny kingdom where they live, once so welcoming to all magical creatures, begins to grow distrustful. Meanwhile, in alternating chapters, we learn the enchantress’ backstory. She fell in love with the inventor Maurice and they married and had a daughter.

Much of the dialogue from the Disney movie is used, but there are interesting deviations and insightful additions that really add to the characters. Together, logical Belle and the earnest Beast piece together how they are connected and look for a way to break the curse. But in this version, Belle quickly learns of the enchantress’ curse and discovers that it was cast by her own mother, magically forgotten by her family and community. Just like in the animated movie, a beautiful book-loving girl offers herself up as prisoner to a horrible beast, who is master of an enchanted castle. I am a huge fan of this series and am looking forward to continuing on with it! Thank you so much to the publisher, Disney Books and Disney Audio, for providing me copies to read and review. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you pick it up. I definitely recommend this story to fans of this series, or The Princess and the Frog movie. The narration was fantastic, perfect for these characters. I did listen to the audiobook and as always, Disney does a great job with that format.
I really appreciate what Rochon was able to do with this story. It was such a treat to be back in this setting, 1920s NOLA, with this fantastic and nuanced set of characters. Can Tiana and friends set things right before she loses everything she holds dear?Īlmost There was great. New Orleans is getting creepy and it’s pretty clear Facilier has something to do with it. It ends up being a race against both time and evil forces, but luckily Tiana has her good friends Naveen and Lottie on her side. As Tiana finds herself navigating her new reality, she also begins to notice strange occurrences popping up everywhere around her. Unfortunately, sometimes when things sound too good to be true, they are. Even though Tiana only makes the deal because she feels backed into a corner, it still provides her with all of her deepest desires: her own restaurant, T&J’s Supper Club, her friends safe, and her beloved father’s return. The latest Twisted Tale novel explores what may have happened to Atlantica and King Triton had Ariel never defeated Ursula the sea witch. The twist in this tale involves a deal that Tiana agrees to make with the notorious Dr. I’m sure many of you love The Princess and the Frog as much as I do and it was so nice to return to that setting and characters through this story. It’s Tiana’s turn to take center stage in this magical volume set in 1920’s New Orleans. Think of it as a sort of alternate history for Disney stories. The point of this series is to take our favorite Disney tales, twist one element and explore what would have happened if that twist had actually occurred. These can be read in any order, as they each follow different characters and their stories are completely unrelated. Almost There is the 13th-installment in Disney’s Twisted Tales YA-series.
